What is Mimosa?
Mimosa was bred in California by Symbiotic Genetics from Clementine × Purple Punch. Clementine brings the bright orange-citrus side; Purple Punch adds sweetness, color and a denser bud. The name comes from the brunch cocktail of orange juice and sparkling wine, and it fits the nose well.
The autoflowering version keeps that citrus-forward profile in a plant that flowers on its own, without a change in light schedule. Mimosa is one of the most recognized citrus names of the last decade, which makes the auto an easy addition to a seed menu.
Purple Punch, one of Mimosa's parents, is itself a Larry OG × Granddaddy Purple cross, which explains the sweet berry side and the occasional violet hue. Clementine, the other parent, is a Tangie line known for its strong orange-peel aroma. Mimosa sits between both: bright, juicy and easy to describe to a customer.
Aroma and terpene profile
Our lot of Mimosa auto opens with fresh orange and tangerine peel, followed by a sweet fruit-punch note from the Purple Punch side. The finish is juicy rather than sharp, with a light peppery edge on some plants.
Published profiles list limonene as the leading terpene, with beta-caryophyllene and myrcene behind it. That is the classic recipe for orange-citrus strains: limonene for the peel, caryophyllene for a little spice and myrcene for the soft, fruity base.
The citrus is most pronounced when the plant is handled in late flower and in freshly cured flowers. Over time the fruit-punch sweetness becomes more visible. Customers who like orange and tangerine profiles usually recognize Mimosa straight away.
Plant traits
- Type: sativa-leaning hybrid, autoflowering feminized
- Lineage: Clementine × Purple Punch, crossed into autoflowering genetics
- Seed to harvest: about 10–11 weeks; the photoperiod original flowers in about 8–9 weeks
- Structure: medium height with conical colas and moderate internode spacing
- Flowers: lime-green buds with bright orange pistils; violet hints are possible with cool nights
- Training: suits low-stress training and light trellis nets
Autoflowers do not wait for a change in light schedule, so most growers keep them under 18 or 20 hours of light from seed to harvest. They have a short vegetative phase, so transplant stress, overwatering and heavy pruning cost more time than on a photoperiod plant. Sowing straight into the final pot is a common choice. Mimosa autos tend to stretch a little in early flower, so a short low-stress tie-down around the third or fourth week helps keep the canopy flat.
Figures are breeder and grower references, not guarantees. Results depend on the environment and handling.
